Making a Difference
January 8, 2009
How has someone made a difference in your life? Was it by some huge grandiose gesture or was it by the tiniest subtle thing?
Here are a few people that made a difference to my life…
First there was Martine and Claire in France – they made a difference by listening, truly listening at a period in my life where my voice was silenced by pain – Merci Martine, Merci Claire.
My son Jeremy, by offering a single yellow rose, which he went out of his way to buy for me with his few cents, the offer was made in apology for misbehaving at the age of 7 – by making that gesture, he also showed me how much he was hurting because he felt unforgiven and how to open my heart. Merci Jeremy.
A huge hug from my handy man at a time when I felt that I had lost everything and everyone around me, made a difference to me. He actually asked permission to hug me because at that second he sensed it was all that I needed. He gave me the courage to stay in South Africa, which transformed my life. Thank you Warren.
Three people made another a difference to my life by accepting me into their social realm and offering a hand of friendship to a total stranger, Rowlene, Paul and Israel. They opened the doors to Johannesburg’s Who’s Who in the entertainment, corporate and social worlds. Thank you Row, Paul and Is.
Ozor, a young Nigerian painter – whose stories, knowledge and wisdom bring the joy of experiencing what it would be like to sit under the giant baobab tree in an African village, listening to the wise words of the elders – my dear friend Ozor transports me to that village every time he speaks and from my armchair in Johannesburg, makes a difference to my metropolitan life. Thank you Ozor.
Then Jane. Sweet Jane her difference to my life was to show me that the world can be truly experienced as that of a beautiful princess and that dreams do come true – she made a difference by opening me up to the possibility of unconditional love – yep for real, it exists, you just need to go check her and her man on facebook
. Thank you Jane and Marc.
Although there are many others who have made and still make a difference in my life, I cannot mention each and everyone and so my tribute to my two other sons, my family and friends and acquaintances that I have not mentioned is I do love you all for all that you have and do share with me each day. I thank you all for making a difference in my life and the lessons I have learned from each of you.
There is one other person that I wish to mention before I end this blog. The difference that she brought to my life, is that she taught me how to play, how to laugh, how to have fun and release my inner child – she taught me how to express unconditional love and so I say thank you Natasha.
Who has made or is making a difference in your life and why?
